On Wednesday Cos surprised me with a homemade feast in celebration of our four year anniversary: roasted chicken doused in a dijon-white wine sauce, potatoes with a stone ground mustard sauce, and balsamic braised Brussels sprouts with crispy pancetta. I think the dijon-white wine gravy was my favorite part of all. Second of course to being fed by a loved one, something, I'd forgotten, that is equally fulfilling as feeding loved ones.
There were chocolate cupcakes for dessert too, with buttercream frosting and sprinkles because: all sprinkles everything, but I didn't get to snap any pictures before we slayed the better part of the pan. If we're being honest, and when are we not, I ate them for breakfast a couple mornings too because anniversary cupcake calories don't count (shh, no it's actually true).
I don't want to be sappy on here because, I don't know, it feels silly. But when other (i.e., famous) people are sappy I'm fine with it, so here are some quotes instead. Thanks for dinner, Baldy. I'm glad you're mine.
Where does it all lead? What will become of us? These were our young questions, and young answers were revealed. It leads to each other. We become ourselves. - Patti Smith, Just Kids
On the inside, we were human animals undergoing transformations beside each other, bearing each other loose witness. In other words, we were aging. - Maggie Nelson, The Argonauts
I am crazier than shirttails
In the wind, when you’re near, a wind that blows from
The big blue sea, so shiny so deep and so unlike us[.]
- Kenneth Koch, To You
I don't care about the lights or the beams, spend my life in the dark for the sake of you and me. Only way to go is up. Them old bitches so whack I'm so tough, wassup? - Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Love Drought
